Microsoft’s long-awaited reply to the PlayStation 4 will finally be unveiled in just under a month from now. Here’s the official announcement from Major Nelson:

On Tuesday May 21st, we’ll mark the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment. On that day, we’ll be holding a special press event on the Xbox campus and we invite you to join us via the live global stream that will be available on Xbox.com, Xbox LIVE and broadcast on Spike TV if you are in the US or Canada.

On that day, we’ll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future. Then, 19-days later at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, we’ll continue the conversation and showcase our full lineup of blockbuster games.

We are thrilled to pull back the curtain and reveal what we’ve been working on.

This is going to be very exciting indeed. Much like this amazing GIF, found on The Verge’s forums:

Now, be honest – if it did that, you’d forget all about that always-online thing.

Leviathan Warships blows everything else out of the water with one of the best trailers you’ll ever see

Did you think that you were above being seduced by a combination of smooth jazz and so-awful-they’re-genius puns? Leviathan Warships says hi, and promises to buy you dinner next time.

We’re only in April, but I’m calling it now – best trailer of 2013.

…I swear, I had my clothes on at the beginning of this video.

If it’s Quake 3, you might as well jump

If, like me, you’re still bathed in the warm (rocket-fueled) glow of nostalgia from yesterday’s Quake 3 love-in, then you’ll probably enjoy this video as much as I did. It’s always fun to watch just how far dedicated players can push a game’s boundaries, and stuff like this is a large part of why Quake 3’s still going strong 14 years after release.

GTA V is coming your way in Spring 2013

From Take-Two’s official website comes the news that we’ve all been waiting for – GTA V will be kicking in your doors come Spring 2013. According to Wikipedia, that’s just about six months away! Better yet, it will be available for pre-order in less than a week, on November 5th! (Remember, remember!)

You know how, sometimes, when you get a piece of news that you’ve been eagerly awaiting for ages, you just kinda feel drained? Unable to summon up an adequate response? This would be one of those times.

Thankfully, however, here’s Australian newsman (and all-around class act) Karl Stefanovic to do it for me:

A Japanese mech could be yours for $1.35 million, why are you still here?

Suidobashi Heavy Industries are the brains behind Kuratas, a 13-foot tall mobile suit that weighs 4.4 tons, and looks like a cross between a Geth unit and a Metal Gear. Oh, did I mention that it’s available for pre-order right now?

At this juncture, I feel that I should point out a few things. Firstly, there is some debate whether this is real or not. Secondly, that first point shouldn’t matter because this video is…you know what? I’m not even going to describe it; words could do it no justice. Lean back and watch four minutes and forty-two seconds of awesome. You won’t regret it. Just…try not to eat or drink anything for the duration, okay? Trust me.
If you survive the video, my second-by-second reactions are listed after the break; partly because this is one to tell the grandchildren, and partly because, well, ****.
