Hitman: Absolution walks the streets of Hope

It’s getting closer to the release of Hitman: Absolution, so I thought this might be an appropriate time to revisit one of the better level previews I’ve seen. This video was pretty much the reason that my attitude towards the upcoming Hitman: Absolution went from ‘meh’ to ‘holyshit!; it may be lengthy, but trust me, it’s well worth it.

Also, Agent 47 was not looking at explosions before it was cool.

Hitman: Absolution has a story to tell (and an Inception horn to blow)

Seriously, those damn horns are everywhere.

Anyway, Hitman: Absolution – a game I’m stoked enough about to actually use the word ‘stoked’ – has released the now-obligatory developer diary to talk about immersion and storytelling. While I may sound disparaging, I’m actually a pretty big fan of these sort of videos because of how they let us get a look behind the scenes; which, in turn, allows me to fully appreciate the experience that the game delivers. If you’re still not sold, check out the developer diaries/behind-the-scenes videos for any Uncharted game or Heavy Rain.

The rest of the video features the big-name Hollywood talent that IO Interactive’s brought in, such as Vivica Fox (Kill Bill, Independence Day), Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight’s Tale, fun to type) and Powers Boothe (the guy with the coolest name in Hollywood, and Deadwood). Also, at 6:22, if that’s a tip of the hat to one of my favourite movies…points, IO, definite points.

Hitman : Absolution, Now With More People

Funny how there just so happens to be a rather large number of bald people in this particular crowd, non?

Hitman : Absolution seems to be taking the low-key path to retail, as befits a game about a stealthy assassin. Now and then, a couple of tidbits do leak out, however; such as this screenshot showcasing Hitman : Absolution’s ‘crowd technology’, which reportedly allows for ‘very dense crowds which allow players to both interact with and influence the behavior of each individual character.’ If you ignore the suspiciously co-ordinated clappers to the left (seriously, they look like a flash mob), it actually looks pretty good.
